Nationals Get Hard-Earned Win
The inspired effort of Salem catcher Luis Fuentes was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the Potomac Nationals. Fuentes was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Potomac pitcher Jeremy Wilson earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Bobby Louque suffered the loss. Picking up the save was Jeremy Hansen. He's now 7 for 10 in save chances.

The Nationals beat the Red Sox in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Eric Edwards produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Dan Gore, Edwards gave his team the lead, 5-4, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Salem manager Jose Nieves.

Potomac goes to 39-48, Salem to 32-55.
