Frederick got a big-time effort from pitcher Sergio López, but it wasn't enough to keep the Myrtle Beach Pelicans from winning the game, 5-1. López threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The winner was Edwin Braun in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Ken Key took the loss. Earning his 7th save for Myrtle Beach was Jerry Jennings.
Israel Menéndez went 1-4 with a double for Myrtle Beach. The slick-fielding center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ken Key. It was his 26th RBI of the season.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Menéndez.
With this game in the books, Myrtle Beach is 43-45, Frederick 41-47.
