The Wilmington Blue Rocks wasted an inspired, 6.1-inning effort from starter César García, falling, 2-0, to the Winston-Salem Dash at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium. Winston-Salem reliever Juan Vélez snagged the win, upping his record to 2-2. César García shouldered the loss. The Dash sport a record of 59-30.
The outcome was still in doubt in the bottom of the ninth inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Wilmington trailing 2-0, Mike Brown needed to get a big out. On a first pitch fastball, Dan Snider, who leads the CAR in stolen bases with 29, grounded out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
