Carolina Sends Wilmington Packing with 7-5 Loss
Wilmington right fielder Greg Lópes had a good game, even if his team did not. The Blue Rocks dropped a 7-5 decision to Carolina at Grainger Stadium. Lópes went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Stephen Millar earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Rudy Thomas earned his 28th save in 30 chances.

Noel Alexander had a big 2-run home run for the Mudcats in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Carolina leading 4-3 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from Chris Goodwin, who is tied for 9th in the CAR in wins with 6, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Mudcats on top, 6-3.

"We didn't play well enough to win," Wilmington skipper Ozzie Timmons said.

The win puts Carolina at 61-29 this season.
