Cobb Lifts Hillcats to 8-5 Triumph
The Lynchburg Hillcats defeated the Carolina Mudcats, 8-5, at Ed Smith Stadium. Lynchburg was led by 24-year old first baseman Steve Cobb, who was 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. Walt Ashley, the winning pitcher, is now 3-1. He went 8.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 11 hits, while fanning 7 and walking 3. Dylan Fairchild picked up the save, his 9th.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Hillcats grabbed the lead when Cobb hit his 8th home run of the season. The grand slam home run off Jeff Harris made it 8-4, Lynchburg.

"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Cobb.

Lynchburg is now 63-40, Carolina 49-54.
