The Salem Red Sox trumped the Lynchburg Hillcats, 13-1, at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Salem second baseman Andy Cook was terrific. He went 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 3 times. The defeat makes Lynchburg 63-41.
Eric Thomas had a big 2-run double for the Red Sox in the bottom of the first inning. With Salem leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Orlando Castro, who is tied for 9th in the CAR in innings pitched with 119.2, and swatted a double to left. It was his 19th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0.
"We lit up the scoreboard," said Salem manager Jose Nieves.
