Carolina Mudcats starter Sergio Martínez pitched effectively against the Frederick Keys at Grainger Stadium. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 7-3 win. The winner was Martínez. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Jon Ramos. The Mudcats now have a record of 57-61 with the win over Frederick.
Carolina left fielder Walt Evans contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a knuckle curve to left-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 82nd hit of the season and put the Mudcats ahead, 3-0.
