Myrtle Beach Pelicans starter Alec Weber pitched a strong game against the Frederick Keys at Harry Grove Stadium, leading the Pelicans to victory, 6-5. Myrtle Beach pitcher Dan Newman got the win. He's now 5-3. Dan Person was tagged with the loss. Augusto Balderas, credited with the save, is now 18 for 24 in save opportunities.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Gene Allen came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Frederick pitcher Dan Person, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Myrtle Beach on top, 6-5.

"It's a mindset," said Allen. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."

Myrtle Beach is now 64-68. Frederick is 67-65.
