Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Lansing Lugnuts were eager to watch Ed Buschlen square off against Spike Kimball of the visiting West Michigan Whitecaps. In the end, the Whitecaps won the game, 4-0, with Spike Kimball leading the way. Chris Whittemore earned the save for West Michigan, his 1st of the year.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Dave Miller? The West Michigan third baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Whitecaps on top, 1-0. For the game, Miller had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"Spike did a good job mixing and matching," said West Michigan manager James Russell.
