Kernels Lose at Home, 6-1
Veterans Memorial Stadium was the site of the home opener for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The contest featured a prime matchup between Cam Rice of the visiting Clinton LumberKings and Chris Peterson of the Kernels. The final score was 6-1, the LumberKings getting the win. Cam Rice turned in the best performance.

The LumberKings got a big at-bat from designated hitter Juan Núñez. For the game, Núñez was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 2nd double of the season gave Clinton a 1-0 lead.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Rice told the Clinton Chronicle.
