Tight Tilt Goes to Cubs, 4-3
The 4-3 South Bend win over Lake County was due largely to Phil Lind. The Cubs center fielder went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Artie Maddox picked up the save for South Bend, his 1st of the year. The win gives South Bend a record of 5-3.

Had António Contreras not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Contreras hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Cubs.

"Feels good to get the job done," Contreras said after the game.
