Lansing Sent Home with 5-2 Loss
|
South Bend pitcher Randy Nelson had a large part in his team beating the Lansing Lugnuts, 5-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Nelson picked up the win for South Bend, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Glenn Hughes finished to wrap up his 1st save.
South Bend designated hitter Jim Unknown contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 4-1.
South Bend manager Taylor Davis said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
Lansing is 8-7 after the loss.
