The West Michigan Whitecaps topped the Dayton Dragons, 6-1, the lion's share of the credit going to left fielder Willie Kilmister. On the day, Kilmister went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Whitecaps. Joe Glass, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Dragons to 1 run on 6 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 1. The hot start continues for the defending champion Whitecaps. This was their 11th win in 16 games.

Early in the game, Kilmister had a 2-run home run for West Michigan. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Whitecaps on top, 2-0.
