The Burlington Bees had to overcome a fine effort from Wisconsin pitcher Ken Alford to win, 3-2, at Community Field. Alford went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Leonardo A. Kimball picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Raúl Perea suffered the loss. The win brings the Bees to 8-11, an inauspicious start for a team that made the playoffs last season.

Don Waller was the walk-off hero for Burlington. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Bees center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Wisconsin manager Matt Walbeck.
