The South Bend Cubs and Dayton Dragons riveted fans at Fifth Third Field.

Dayton pitcher Isaac Wilhelm did his part in helping his team defeat the South Bend Cubs, 3-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. In 5.1 innings, Wilhelm surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mike Davis delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Dayton catcher hit a 2-run single, putting the Dragons in front, 3-1.

"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said Wilhelm.

The Cubs fall to 10-11 and continue their wobbly start to the 2026 season.
