Riding the 3-hit performance of the 22-year old right fielder Joe Pettifer, the West Michigan Whitecaps stopped the Great Lakes Loons, 6-2. António Quiñones earned the win, while 23-year old left-handed pitcher Bob Marín took the loss for Great Lakes. West Michigan is off to a hot start at 15-6.

West Michigan center fielder Chris Gibson contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 21st hit of the season and put the Whitecaps ahead, 3-0.

"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Gibson. "I just want to win ballgames."
