Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Dayton Dragons take on the West Michigan Whitecaps.

The West Michigan Whitecaps powered past the Dayton Dragons, 8-2, at Fifth Third Field. Ted Garland went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, to lead the charge. Jon Harper, who is tied for 6th in the MID in quality starts with 5, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts.

Chris Jacobs led off the game with a home run, ambushing a sinker from Dayton pitcher Bao-tian Liu.

"We'll need a much better effort, the next time out," said losing manager Manny Amador.

The Whitecaps now have a record of 30-10 with the win over Dayton.
