Dayton pitcher Bao-tian Liu had a large part in his team subduing the South Bend Cubs, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Dayton raised its record to 28-27 with the win.

Sergio Castillo was 1-2 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Dayton. The 23-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a 2-run single off Artie Maddox. It was his 46th hit of the season.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Dayton manager Manny Amador.
