Fans watched the South Bend Cubs and the Dayton Dragons fight to the finish.

The performance of Norm Armitage proved critical in helping South Bend beat Dayton, 6-5. The Cubs designated hitter was 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Mike Tillman snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits over 3 innings. He's now 2-3 on the season.

South Bend used the timely hitting of Ron McIntosh to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cubs on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
