The Great Lakes Loons had to overcome a fine effort from South Bend pitcher Artie Maddox to win, 2-1, at Dow Diamond. Maddox went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The save was credited to Jarrod Lane, his 14th. The Loons have now won 7 straight.

Jorge Rivera drove in one run for Great Lakes. The 23-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Artie Maddox. It was his 47th RBI of the season.

Rivera said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
