Whitecaps Fight for 5-4 Win
|
The Lansing Lugnuts got a superb performance from catcher Greg Wright, but the West Michigan Whitecaps still won the game, 5-4. Wright went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. West Michigan reliever Steve Hood snagged the win, upping his record to 3-0. Eugene Howe shouldered the loss. Picking up his 17th save was 21-year old right-handed pitcher Aurelio González.
West Michigan used the timely hitting of Kevin Franklin to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whitecaps on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Franklin. "You've got to get results."
West Michigan is now 45-16, while Lansing is 33-28.
