The Clinton LumberKings topped the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 5-1, with youngster Juan Luna playing a key role. Luna was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI for the LumberKings in the win. The LumberKings saw their record improve to 30-31.

Clinton shortstop Curt Collier contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a splitter to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 42nd hit of the season and put the LumberKings ahead, 2-0.

Collier told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."
