The inspired effort of Lansing left fielder Bob Benton was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the Great Lakes Loons. Benton went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. With the victory, the Loons upped their record to 34-31.

Had Rob Lilly not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Lilly hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Loons.

Great Lakes manager Emilio Bonifacio commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
