Behind a solid performance from center fielder Pete Yates, the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the South Bend Cubs, 8-5. Yates was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Whitecaps. Aurelio González was credited with the save for West Michigan, his 18th of the season. West Michigan is now 49-18, while South Bend is 28-39.

The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Yates hit a 3-run home run off Rodrigo Vargas. It propelled the Whitecaps into the lead, 7-4.

"It was a solid team effort," said Yates after the game.
