Great Lakes Sends Lake County Packing with 5-3 Loss
|
The Great Lakes Loons defeated the Lake County Captains, 5-3, at Classic Park. Great Lakes was led by 24-year old shortstop José Vilas, who was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 times. Great Lakes reliever Francis Gambetta picked up the win, upping his record to 6-4. Ken Martínez was saddled with the loss. Jarrod Lane, credited with the save, is now 16 for 17 in save opportunities.
The Loons had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 5-3, Great Lakes, with no one out. Lake County, with the bases empty, was mounting a threat. Curt Sorensen dug in at the plate, but on a 1-1 fastball, he lined out.
With the victory, the Loons upped their record to 35-33.
