Despite a great performance by Lansing designated hitter Steve Collins, the Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the Lugnuts by the score of 5-3 at Cooley Law School Stadium. Collins went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. Sergio Guzmán earned his 15th save, after closing out the game. Their 43-44 record puts the TinCaps 5th in the Eastern Division.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Lúcio Mojica came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Lansing pitcher Buddy Paige, he hit a 2-0 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Fort Wayne on top, 4-3.

"We ground out the win," said Mojica. "That's all that matters."
