Peoria pitcher José Martínez did his part in helping his team beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Martínez, now 2-1, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing no runs. Joe Evans, credited with the save, is now 9 for 11 in save opportunities.
