The Kernels grabbed a win, 8-3, at Community Field, overcoming a fine effort from Burlington pitcher Vinnie Merritt. Merritt went 5.2 innings and allowed 5 runs. The Kernels sit in third place in the Western Division with a record of 62-47.

Cedar Rapids used a well-timed hit by Ernesto González to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Kernels ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

González told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."
