South Bend Beats Lake County, 5-3
|
Despite a great performance by Lake County designated hitter Mitch Madison, the South Bend Cubs defeated the Captains by the score of 5-3 at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. Madison was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Mike Tillman got the save, his 12th in 15 chances. After today's action, South Bend sits at 48-65, while Lake County falls to 60-53.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from center fielder Chris Allen. For the game, Allen was 2-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 33rd double of the season gave South Bend a 4-2 lead.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Allen.
