Norfolk Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game Wednesday, September 17th , 2025 The Norfolk Tides and Gwinnett Firebirds didn't hold back anything in the Round 1, with each team pulling out all the stops in an effort to advance to the Round 2. Norfolk won the final game by a score of 8-1 at Coolray Field and that concluded the series, 3-2. "Relief is the biggest thing," Norfolk second baseman Wilbert Austin said when asked how he felt. "It's a grind both mentally and physically to have a long series like this, but our guys stuck with it and Gwinnett deserves credit for the hard fight." Austin paced the Norfolk offence and earned MVP honors. For the series, he hit .435 with a .435 on-base percentage, 3 home runs, 7 RBI and scored 4 runs. The Norfolk Tides will play against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the next round. Lehigh Valley won their series against the Columbus Clippers 3 games to 0.
