Relief Star Wins CAR Top Pitcher Honors

Rory Briggs was ecstatic to win May's Carolina League Pitcher of the Month honors today. The 26-year-old Winston-Salem pitcher thanked fans, his coaches and the voters for the honor -- despite the fact that he deserved much of the credit himself.
Briggs's star burned bright last month as he made 2 relief appearances, notching no saves and 31 strikeouts in 38.2 innings. He held opposing hitters to a .173 average to put up his 4-0 mark and 2.09 ERA.
This season, Briggs has made 2 relief appearances, pitched 66.2 innings and struck out 56 with a record of 6 wins and no losses. He has compiled a 2.29 ERA and saved 0 games.
