Porter 5-for-5 for South Bend Monday, September 15th , 2025 Even as a kid, Hugh Porter said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium, Porter showed how well he learned that lesson. The 24-year-old shortstop had 5 hits in 5 at-bats for the South Bend Cubs, helping his team knock off the West Michigan Whitecaps by a score of 6-2. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Hugh Porter singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
