5-Hit Clinic by Jacobs in West Michigan Win Saturday, August 15th , 2026 West Michigan Whitecaps center fielder Joe Jacobs had a day to remember at Classic Park, ripping apart the Lake County Captains and sparking the 13-5 Whitecaps win. Jacobs wrote his name in the record books with a 5-hit barrage, finishing his special day 5-for-6. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Jacobs told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it." Joe Jacobs singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Scotty Stevens in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
