González Gets Award for Relief Work Saturday, October 3rd , 2026 He may only be 22, but Aurelio González of the West Michigan Whitecaps has already established himself as one of the elite relievers in the Midwest League. The reliever was today named the MID Reliever of the Year winner for 2026. He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 35 saves in 53 relief appearances and 63 strikeouts in 61.1 innings. He had a record of 8-3 to go with his 2.35 ERA. He received 14 first place votes out of a possible 16. Joe Williams of the Quad Cities River Bandits finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Juan Jose Disanti of the Quad Cities River Bandits finished third.
