3-0 Hickory Loss Tarnishes Howgill's Fine Effort
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Hickory Crawdads home opener. Joe Howgill started for the home team against Alfredo González for the Delmarva Shorebirds. The Crawdads were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 3-0, Delmarva. Joe Howgill, though, was impressive. The win was credited to 23-year old right-handed pitcher Jesús De Jesús in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Rob Kennedy took the loss.

Delmarva used the timely hitting of T.J. Blake to capture the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Shorebirds on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.

"Watch and learn," said Blake. "This is what good pitching looks like."
