Rome registered a win at Municipal Stadium by beating the Hagerstown Suns, 8-5. Pitcher Tommy Pierce was one reason why the Hammers triumphed. Hagerstown falls to 1-1.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Edwin Huff? The Rome right fielder had a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Hammers on top, 3-2. For the game, Huff had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
