In a tight contest between the Hickory Crawdads and the Lakewood BlueClaws, Ernie Atkinson was the determining factor. The Hickory right-hander sparkled in his team's 1-0 win. Rob Kennedy earned his 2nd save, after closing out the game. The BlueClaws fall to 5-8 and continue their sputtering start to the 2026 season.
Hickory used the hitting of Arturo Reyes to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put the Crawdads on top, 1-0. For the game, Reyes had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Atkinson said.
