Hammers Earn Late Win
The Rome Hammers had to overcome a fine effort from West Virginia pitcher Darryl Jones to win, 5-4, at Appalachian Power Park. Jones went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs. The winner was Jim Keys in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Anastasio Cabrera took the loss. The save was credited to Lou Riley, his 5th.

Jerry Jones was 1-1 for Rome. With one out and the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Jones had a clutch at-bat. Facing West Virginia hurler Anastasio Cabrera, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Hammers a 5-4 lead.
