Hammers Fall Short, 6-5, at West Virginia
|
The West Virginia Power weathered an outstanding game by Rome second baseman Jerry Jones to topple the Hammers, 6-5. Jones was 2-4 with a double and a walk, while scoring 3. West Virginia pitcher Juan Fernández earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Theron Ryan suffered the loss. Rhett Fuller closed it out for his 2nd save.
In the bottom of the fifth, Darren Wood delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the West Virginia second baseman hit a run-scoring single, putting the Power in front, 6-5.
"We're a talented bunch when we're playing well," said Wood. "I think we showed that here."
The Hammers drop to 8-8 and continue their mediocre start to the 2026 season.
