Howgill Powers Crawdads Offense
The Hickory Crawdads beat the Augusta GreenJackets, 5-0, at L.P. Frans Stadium. Joe Howgill, in particular, was impressive. He threw 8.1 innings of shutout ball. Howgill yielded no runs over 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 13. His record improves to 2-1. The GreenJackets drop to 5-11, as their stumbling start to the 2026 season continues.

Steve Day had a big bases-clearing double for the Crawdads in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Hickory leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from José Flores and swatted a double to center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Crawdads ahead, 5-0.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Howgill told the Hickory Chronicle.
