|
The Rome Firebirds picked up a win at State Mutual Stadium, defeating the Hagerstown Suns, 4-1. Starting pitcher Stephen Millar was an essential part of his team's success. Millar, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 9, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Lou Riley stitched up the save, his 3rd.
The outcome was still in doubt with two out in the top of the sixth inning, but Millar was able to pitch out of a jam. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Hagerstown trailing 2-1, Millar retired Thad Nelson, who flied out.
The Suns fall to 8-10 and continue to sputter in the early going.
