Hickory and Kannapolis took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.

The Hickory Crawdads trumped the Kannapolis Intimidators, 3-2, at L.P. Frans Stadium. Hickory designated hitter Joe Howgill was terrific. He threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs. Mike Bass was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was José Montáñez.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Steve Day came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kannapolis pitcher José Montáñez, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hickory on top, 3-2.

"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Carlos Mota.

The loss makes Kannapolis 17-10.
