Hammers Get Clonked by GreenJackets, 5-2
|
The Augusta GreenJackets topped the Rome Hammers, 5-2, with youngster José Moreno playing a key role. Moreno was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk for the GreenJackets in the win. Augusta reliever Sean Owens was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Jesús Martínez took the loss. Adrián Aguilar recorded his 3rd save for Augusta.
Augusta shortstop Sergio Durán helped the GreenJackets go up, 3-2, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Durán hit a run-scoring single off Rome pitcher Jesús Martínez.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Moreno.
The win brings the GreenJackets to 9-18, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
