In a low-scoring affair between the Rome Hammers and the Hickory Crawdads, pitcher Theron Ryan was the difference between victory and defeat. The Rome left-hander earned kudos in the 2-1 Hammers win. Rome is now 20-13. Hickory is 16-17.

Had Lou Britt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Britt hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Hammers.

Rome manager Aaron Holbert commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
