The Delmarva Shorebirds topped the Savannah Sand Gnats, 7-3, with designated hitter Jimmy Koch playing a big role. Koch threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the Shorebirds in the win. The setback makes Savannah 19-15.

The Shorebirds got a big at-bat from right fielder Ernesto Méndez. For the game, Méndez was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Delmarva a 7-3 lead.

"When you put in the effort and you get really focused, the results come in ways you're not even expecting," said Shorebirds manager Tripp Keister.
