Greensboro Upended by West Virginia, 6-3
|
The West Virginia Power cut down the Greensboro Grasshoppers by the score of 6-3, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Rodrigo Tovar. Tovar belted 2 home runs for the Power. Tony González, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-5. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 1. Picking up the save was Esteban Vallés, his 9th.
Tovar had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a full count fastball from Myron Cross, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Power a 2-1 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Tovar.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said West Virginia manager German Melendez.
The triumph puts West Virginia at 22-21 for the season.
