State Mutual Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Charleston RiverDogs and Rome Hammers.

Rome got a strong outing from Joe Kidd as the Hammers defeated the Charleston RiverDogs, 4-2, at State Mutual Stadium. Getting the save was Lou Riley, his 16th.

Kidd, a native of Santa Clarita, California, was dealing all game. He kept Charleston hitters off-balance, while giving the Hammers 7.1 quality innings. Kidd threw 112 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 10.

"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Kidd.

With the win, Rome raised its record to 27-17.
