Joel Brown was instrumental in his team's 10-7 triumph over the Rome Firebirds. The second baseman went 4-6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 4 times for the Hickory Crawdads. Hickory is 20-24 and Rome, with the loss, 26-18.

Jim Chase had a big solo home run for the Crawdads in the top of the second inning. With Hickory leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a circle change from Jesús Martínez, who is tied for 7th in the SAL with a 10.4 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Crawdads on top, 2-0.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Chase.
