Rome second baseman Jerry Jones made his presence felt in the 10-7 Firebirds triumph over the Greenville Drive. Jones went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Ron Cochran earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 3-0. Lou Riley was called on to finish, recording his 16th save.

Rome took the lead, 9-7, on Juan Valle's 4th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Valle hit in the bottom of the eighth, made Greenville pitcher Steve Adams wince.

"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Jones. "It sure beats the alternative."

With the win over Greenville, the Firebirds improved to 33-18.
