The Hickory Crawdads picked up a win at L.P. Frans Stadium, topping the West Virginia Power, 4-3. On the mound for Hickory was right-hander Ernie Atkinson. He played a principal role in the triumph. Atkinson yielded no runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-3. The victory gives Hickory a record of 30-26.

Arturo Reyes had a big run-scoring double for the Crawdads in the bottom of the eighth inning. With Hickory leading 3-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Anastasio Cabrera and swatted a double to center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Crawdads ahead, 4-0.

"I was a little disappointed," said West Virginia manager German Melendez. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
